Karen Killian, a life-long, self-taught artist, first sketched her own Golden Retriever in 1987. Soon, requests for children’s’ portraits came, and she became enamored with painting kids and dogs together, depicting the bond we treasure always. Killianʼs painting style and media have evolved along with her growing clientele. She began painting portraits in watercolor, but seeking richer flesh tones, begin working in oil. She now works exclusively in oil on Belgian linen. Her portraits range from classic single head studies with simple backgrounds, to several subjects grouped together with very detailed landscape or interior backgrounds. Karen is best known for the spirit and personality she captures in her subject’s eyes. Killian also paints commissioned portraits of humans and all breeds of dogs, and her work hangs in collections nationwide.
